I had earlier posted a graphic set with a similar message as this one, but i never really conveyed my feelings about it. It’s very simple, but I end up over analyzing it. But I think Kazue placing Bon there eavesdropping over the girl’s conversation is very important. Why of all people to put there, does she draw Bon there? What does Izumo’s jealousy of Shiemi and Rin have to do with Bon? I don’t know if Bon has noticed, or will notice, but Shima and Izumo are very much alike (this is stated by shima and confirmed by Izumo later on), and if I can get anything from this conversation is that Shima perhaps shared a similar feeling Izumo had towards Rin and Shiemi, but towards Bon and basically the Kyoto folks. If I recall, all we see from Shima is his fake smile and not much care about anything—mostly him avoiding any actual work and fighting, anything troublesome. This arc, we have seen more expression and feelings on Shima that I’d like to mention out to you guys. I think Shima feels like he himself is a slave to his family and the order, and couldn’t find his freedom to properly express. His ideas, since he was young (take the chapter where he questions why no one cared about him and only bon, only to get scolded by kinzou) to present day (him getting scolded repeatadly by Juuzou, Kinzou, his own dad, etc.) were always denied, and thus opressed his liberty. Even though we found out about his double spy strategy, I really do hope he didn’t really mean those words he told Izumo on truly hating “everthing.”
